Overview

In September last year, 12 passionate and like-minded adventurers embarked on an unforgettable four-day trek through Yosemite National Park in the USA, raising an incredible $34,530 USD, equivalent to $51,256 AUD, in support of Church World Service (CWS).

The Hike for Hope in Yosemite offered supporters a unique and meaningful way to connect with the cause, fostering a sense of community and inspiring continued advocacy and support.

To help achieve this positive outcome with minimal internal resources to spare, CWS engaged Inspired Adventures, a leading adventure fundraising agency and trusted Grassrootz partner.

Objectives

The CWS fundraising team wanted to engage their community in a fresh and memorable way without adding extra work to their already busy schedule. They knew that a trek to a stunning location would not only excite their existing supporters but also attract new ones to their cause.

By combining an adventure challenge with peer-to-peer fundraising, CWS was confident they would achieve fantastic results and build a strong foundation for participants to become lifelong advocates of their cause.

Partnership

Being new to adventure fundraising, the CWS fundraising team engaged Inspired Adventures to execute their inaugural trek.

They trusted Inspired Adventures to bring their vision to life, confident in the team’s proven track record of supporting hundreds of charities since 2004. Inspired Adventures managed every detail, from travel logistics and campaign materials to fundraiser stewardship. This allowed the CWS team to stay focused on their mission, knowing they were in expert hands.

As it was the very first year of the event, an Expression of Interest (EOI) strategy was instrumental in attracting a diverse range of participants, including both internal stakeholders and members of the CWS community. The Inspired Adventures team developed a tailored EOI form for CWS, which was then shared with their broader supporter network.

The event brought together 12 participants who were all set up with a personalised Grassrootz fundraising page so they could easily promote the challenge and collect donations for CWS.

By having their own dedicated page, participants had a space to share their story, celebrate milestones, and connect emotionally with their donors. They could also share regular updates to keep their network informed about their fundraising progress, sustaining momentum and excitement as their big adventure approached.

The result was a seamless adventure fundraising campaign that raised a significant amount of money and long-term support for CWS’s efforts in bringing hope to communities in need across the globe.
